What's going on with the baby?

The fetus is not quite like a small baby yet. Its weight is only one gram, and its height is 1.5-2 mm. Nevertheless, important changes are taking place in this tiny organism, internal organs are intensively forming.

  • The embryo already has the rudiments of limbs and even fingers, the cochlea of the inner ear, eyes and mouth are formed. At this stage, the cells that are responsible for the sex of the child begin to form.
  • Intensively formed spine and internal organs such as the liver, intestines, pancreas, digestive and urinary systems are formed.
  • The cardiovascular system develops, the first blood vessels appear. By the middle of the fifth week, the tiny heart beats with a frequency of about 100 beats per minute. In time, the contractions will reach 180 beats.
  • The nervous system begins to develop, the spinal cord and spinal cord tissues appear.

At this time, the placenta is actively developing – one of the most important and unique organs that exists only during pregnancy. The placenta connects the mother and the future child, providing the latter with all the necessary nutrients. Such a close connection between the mother and the baby through the placenta is a reason to reconsider your work and eating habits, to give up bad habits.

Keep in mind that the fifth obstetric week coincides with the third fetal week, which means that the real age of the baby is two weeks less.

What are the changes in a woman's condition in the fifth week?

The absence of menstruation, as well as new symptoms and sensations will indicate the onset of pregnancy.

  • Such signs as drowsiness or insomnia, mood swings, fatigue, tearfulness, tearfulness, changes in taste, aggravation of the sense of smell, if they were previously.
  • In addition to breast engorgement and increased sensitivity, there may be pigmentation of the nipples and a stripe down from the navel.
  • At this time, the first signs of toxicosis are likely, so avoid provoking factors: pungent odors, fatty and too specific food. Include in your diet products containing vitamin B6.
  • Usually increased urges to urinate.
  • Always monitor the nature of your sensations in the lower abdomen. If the pains are minor and short-lived, you should not worry. If they intensify or are accompanied by bloody discharge, cause you discomfort, immediately contact your doctor.

Do not forget that the absence of the above symptoms is also considered normal, because the size of the baby is still very small.

If nothing else bothers you, the pregnancy is probably going well.

If the pregnancy test is negative for any of the above signs and there is no menstruation, it is recommended to repeat the test after 3-5 days. Sometimes a negative test can be caused by a low amount of chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).

An ultrasound scan in the fifth week of pregnancy can determine the presence of the fetal egg and how it is attached, see the size of the embryo, assess its development and, most importantly, find out the gestational age.

Remember that your body has already started to change, even though you can’t see it yet. Avoid stressful situations, do not overwork. During this period, physical activity is undesirable. Have more rest, spend time in the fresh air and enjoy your position. After all, the moral attitude is no less important than physical readiness.

Nutrition of the mum-to-be

Plan your diet according to all the rules. You do not need to eat for two. Eat full meals, small portions, at least four times a day. Try to steam food.

It is important to realise that fertilisation may not occur in the third week for some reason. It may come later, in the fourth obstetric week. The main thing is not to lose your positive attitude to becoming a mum.
