The baby’s skin is still red and thin. He reacts to light, opens his eyes. The exploration of its own capabilities continues unabated. The baby boldly moves, somersaults, sucks his finger, hiccups, plays with the umbilical cord. More and more recognizable becomes the voice of the mother and other loved ones. And conversations with the baby help to establish psychological contact. Include in such “conversations” and the father of the child. This will have a beneficial effect on the calm course of pregnancy in the mother.

What is happening to the baby at 28 weeks?

The baby’s internal organs continue to improve as the body grows rapidly.

  • More crinkles are formed in the brain.
  • The liver begins to secrete bile, and the pancreas – enzymes. The peristalsis of the intestines is improving.
  • In the lungs all the respiratory structures are formed. This system is almost ready for independent work outside the womb.
  • At 28 weeks of pregnancy, the baby’s visual skills are already so developed that he can focus his gaze on one point for a while. Swallowing amniotic water, he distinguishes its taste and odor.
  • The baby’s lightened skin is covered with a layer of fat, which is responsible for the baby’s heat exchange. His body becomes fuller and acquires rounded shapes.
  • The kidneys are actively working, which remove urine from the body every day.

What happens to mom at 28 weeks of pregnancy?

The mother now regularly feels the baby’s movements. The baby is trying to communicate by showing positive or negative emotions. For example, he may be uncomfortable with the position the mother is in. Try changing your position until the baby calms down.

  • Women’s breasts continue to enlarge. The mammary glands are preparing for future lactation. Because of the high level of progesterone, the mammary glands become hypersensitive, sometimes a slight tingling may be felt.
  • There may be drowsiness, rapid fatigue, weakness. Very often the cause of this can be a decrease in hemoglobin.
  • The expectant mother should count the number of movements of the baby per day. Discuss with your doctor how many movements should be during a certain period of the day.
  • Sometimes due to the shift in the center of gravity, a woman may feel pain in the lower back.
  • If the pain occurs in the lower abdomen or subcostal region, it may be due to the baby’s activity. Nevertheless, if your condition worsens, urgently consult a doctor.
  • At 28 weeks, the volume of amniotic fluid increases significantly. This can cause back pain.

If you periodically feel uterine muscle contractions, these are most likely training contractions that prepare your body for the upcoming labor. They should not cause discomfort and should not last very long (usually not more than 2 minutes).

If you notice that the smell of discharge has become pungent and unpleasant, as well as a change in color and consistency – this is a reason to immediately consult a doctor. Normally, your discharge should be light in color, uniform in consistency and without a pungent odor.

If the discharge has become watery, it may indicate a leakage of amniotic fluid. It is better to see your gynecologist immediately.

Recommendations for expectant mothers

  • Communicate with your baby by talking, singing songs, reading stories, listening to calm, soothing music. In this way you establish psychological contact with your future child.
  • Avoid places with large crowds of people, especially during periods of acute respiratory infections.
  • Watch the weight you gain. You do not need to eat for two. Take food in small portions, but more often. Enrich your diet with foods that contain calcium proteins: fish, beef, milk and fermented milk products. Eat soups, porridge, fruits and vegetables every day.

Avoid stressful situations, do not overwork. During this period, physical exertion is undesirable. Have more rest, spend time in the fresh air and enjoy your position. After all, the moral attitude is no less important than physical readiness.
